Samruk-Kazyna state fund will acquire 78.14% of shares in BTA bank, Kazakhstan's largest bank, by purchasing the additional issue of 29.9m of the bank’s ordinary shares. The government will also acquire control over fourth largest Kazakh bank, Alliance bank. The takeover of control by the government over
Alliance and BTA banks signifies the restructuring of the banking sector in favour of the state.

One of the main problems in Central Asia is the continuing outflow of labour to foreign countries. This mostly concerns Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and remittances account for significant part of the first two countries’ GDP: up to 54% in Tajikistan and about 40% in Kyrgyzstan.
